Many people are, as facebook has become well….quite soaked with a lot of marketers. There is nothing wrong with that, but often, we get so caught up in the latest “tools” and soft-wares for facebook that we forget why we are on it to begin with. Lots of bright new shiny objects are around, but there are the facebook basic rules for recruiting that may have seem to forgotten and their recruiting results have suffered, that is why serves small businesses with social media advertising. 

Have you seen a drop in your Facebook advertising success when recruiting? if so, odds are, you have moved away from the facebook basics that are a part of the foundational structure for working a home based business. That is the reason for this post.

By the way, i have not posted in 2 weeks as we have been working on our websites and moving them, updating them, and also have been on the road a lot. but I am back so lots of posts daily are now back.

What ARE the 3 basic rules of facebook recruiting? Well, they are more “understandings,”  then actual rules, but can make all the difference in your recruiting results. Social Media has grown to be a staple in the home business mlm field as far as prospecting. But there are still the basics that are to be focused on when recruiting on s social networking site. That is why I wanted to write this today, as there have been some people that have become quite discouraged using facebook for their sponsoring efforts.

Here are the 3 basic Rules for Recruiting on facebook:

1.  It is about RELATING- NOT just about Recruiting.

It is about building relationships. It is about connecting with people an d seeing how you can help them, as that is all part of the process in recruiting. When you start a conversation with someone on facebook, you are not there to see how you can recruit them.

You are there to see how you can help them, enlarge their life, and their lifestyle. Once you have done that, then recruiting them is the FRUIT of helping them in a way that adds VALUE to their life.

2.  It is about finding the RIGHT PERSON –not just A PERSON.

This is so true. Many people think that everyone they talk to is a prospect. They are NOT. many you talk to and approach simply are not for this business. That is why on facebook, I have always taught that you “Reverse the Recruiting.”

What is THAT?

Ask them who they know that would be a good leader in their area, as you and your business partners are looking for the right person to help you build a million dollar business in their state. This often will PULL that person closer to listen and see how they could be a part. Finding the RIGHT PERSON is critical when recruiting- even on facebook.

3. Help them FIND what THEY are Looking For – NOT what YOU are looking for.

People are looking for basically on thing in life: A BETTER  and more SECURE life. Show them how you and your network marketing business can help them achieve that. Ask them what they really would like to see changed in their life and then help them get it. You will recruit them just about every time.

Facebook is no different then normal face to face conversation and these are the 3 Power Rules of facebook recruiting for your mlm network marketing home based business.

I know…you may be unaware that you are making them. But that is ok. That is the reason for this post. We researched this and found there actually are 7 biggest mistakes.

What are the 7 Biggest Mistakes made on facebook?

1) Being TOO Aggressive in getting your message out to people.

Aggression is good in business, but not on facebook. The less aggressive you are, the better in many cases. Yes, you need to be PROACTIVE, but not aggressive. It works against you when re recruiting as well as marketing.

2) Not giving the relationship time to grow before you start the recruiting process.

Pulling the trigger before it is time, is a killer of business. Give your relationships time to grow. You cannot ask someone out for a date, if you have never met them- and get it. 99% of who you ask out would say “I don’t know you.” Same on facebook. Give your new connections time to “bake” in the relationship oven.

3) Inconsistent Visibility.

Being on facebook on occasion will NOT work. You must be visible DAILY for at least 5 minutes. Visibility is part of the “Visible, Viable, Valuable” social media triad. Be visible for credibility sake, as well as marketing sake.

4) Not enough friends being made.

Yep gotta have friends on facebook. What is your Friend Plan? How many friends are you getting DAILY? This blueprint will help you get more and more connected to people on facebook. I always have taught that you send out 10 friend requests a day- at least until you have at least 2000 friends. That is a good start for marketing on facebook and recruiting.

 5) Not establishing yourself as THE EXPERT.

I actually would change that now- and say to position you as THE AUTHORITY. Authority is what activates the experts credentials. Be the “go to person” in your niche and rock people’s worlds with your expertise and AUTHORITY.

6) Not promoting what your friends do. (Like, share, comment)

Be a HUGE Promoter! re-post and like A LOT of things on facebook. Make someone the superstar and feel special by putting the facebook SPOTLIGHT on what they do and create. be a massive “LIKER” and bee seen as someone who PAYS ATTENTION.

7) Not hooking up facebook to LinkedIn, twitter, slideshare, wordpress, youtube,,  and all the other social sites that will send your efforts to facebook.

I believe that facebook is a GREAT recruiting space. But you MUST know that there are things you DO NOT DO.

What are the 7 Biggest Mistakes made while recruiting on facebook?

1) Being TOO Aggressive in getting your message out to people.

Many folks on facebook are way too pushy in their recruiting efforts. The reason are many. They are excited, they are new, and they don’t know. But many times, you will find that even though someone tries to help, they still will not listen.

If you are too aggressive and too pushy, that will spell one word:


That is what amateurs do on facebook when recruiting. They are looking for what the prospect can give them, versus what the leader can give the prospect.

2) Not giving the relationship time to grow before you start the recruiting process.

Relationships are the nuclear fuel to this profession and social media. But yet, many people JUMP IN and do not give the relationship time to gel or form. That is a mistake.

Relationships take time. Even if you connect with the person- give the relationship time to gel and settle so you can find out where your business can help them and solve a problem. If you do not do this and continue to push the prospect- you will push the prospect away and they will not be coming back.

3) Inconsistent Visibility.

You cannot spend all your time on facebook, come on. But yet, you MUST be consistent in when people SEE YOU and hear FROM YOU. If you are not, they will not take you seriously in your social media efforts.

If you spend only 20 minutes a day on facebook, the amount of recruiting you can do, IF done correctly, is staggering.

4) Broadcasting and NOT Conversing.

There are 2 ways to communicate on social media: Broadcast and Conversation.

Many facebook folks recruiting prospects ONLY broadcast updates with links and “take a look at my business.” THAT is a mistake. CONVERSATION is the MAGNET.

It will PULL the prospect into the thread of communication, and give you a better opportunity to get your message out but yet in a more personal way. Broadcasting is good, but Conversation is better.

5) Not establishing yourself as THE AUTHORITY.

Many people talk about becoming THE EXPERT. But I beg to differ. There are many experts out there that carry NO influence nor make any difference. Many are ONLY fact filled geeks.

If you are SERIOUS about recruiting on facebook- start using the word “Authority” and establish yourself as THE GO TO PERSON, and then when you speak, it will carry more clout and magnetism.

6) Not promoting what your friends and followers do.

It is NOT ABOUT YOU, nor your home based business. It is about what YOUR FRIENDS are doing. Re-post what your friends are doing, and do it OFTEN. Tag them in the post. And make sure they see YOU are promoting them a LOT.


Because they will promote YOU and your message. That is human nature. You scratch my back and I will scratch yours. So if you are recruiting on facebook- make the OTHER PERSON the STAR! And they will return the favor.

7) Not hooking up facebook to LinkedIn, twitter, slideshare, wordpress, youtube, pinterest, and all the other social sites that will send your efforts to facebook.

It is called a “social web.”

What is one of the worst things that you can have in social media and a home business?

Ok- fair enough…but what is that?

“OEWA”  is when someone is constantly being seen trying to sell or recruit in the social media zone and is NOT bringing any Value to the social conversation and people in social networking circles start getting tired of their selfish messages.


It creates something that I call “Social Visibility Fatigue.”

Much like with President Bush or President Clinton, and now somewhat with President Obama, the US got TIRED of the nonstop talk, images in the media, and chatter about them and people just wanted these guys to just go away. And true, as always, politics may have played some into it, but even staunch Republicans got tired of Bush and diehard Democrats got tired of Clinton.

That what happens as well in sociao media,  with an Overexposed message with seemingly No Value.

There are some folks that you see everywhere on social media,  but people do not ever seem to get tired of them. You read their posts daily, watch their videos constantly, and talk about their current message powerfully.

Why in the world does this happen?

There are certain social media folks thay bring Extreme Value to everything they say and do and contribute to the social media word. They do it without a selfish motive and YOU CAN FEEL IT, as well as sense it.

There are a LOT of social networking folks that bring great VALUE to EVERYTHING they do, and people on facebook, twitter, pinterest, Google+, LinkedIn, and other social sites look forward to hearing from them- again and again and again.

And they keep coming back for more!

What makes these folks special, is they do not “pitch” you on their products or trainings every time they hold a conversation online, text, broadcast a message or say something in a video. They constantly bring a more powerful conversation into the community with powerful ideas and concepts that ADDS– not tries to take from the whole.

Their message in social media BRINGS VALUE– not tries to be SEEN as VALUE. People are savvy enough to tell the difference today in social media.

And folks, that ONE THING  is the difference between powerful and enduring Successful Social Media professionals- and the ones that are not so successful.

It appears that Successful professionals in social media seem to focus more on being Valuable and BRINGING Value to people’s lives daily, – while it comes across that less than successful folks seem to focus more on being Visible.


Valuable vs. Visible.

Your ONLY goal in social media as a network marketing professional should be to provide Jaw Dropping Value FIRST and be Visible SECOND!

Extreme Value FOR Social media will ALWAYS bring HIGH VISIBILITY IN social media!

You must understand that there is the critical distinction between people looking Forward to your Message, and people being Tired of your Message.

 Over Exposure  Remedy.

So here is the Million Dollar Question: What can you do to powerfully market your home business message and NOT become a Victim of Overexposure?

Here are 5 things:

1) One secret is to give away something for FREE regularly and make it WORTH something and Usable

Do NOT make the mistake that a lot of people make…they save their best content for their CDs and webinars. If you want to gain High Visibilty, then give something away that has TRUE VALUE and can be used.

2) Another secret is to Solve problems for people.

Find out what challenges that your prospects have. Ask them.   Give them multiple solutions and ideas and resources that will help solve that problem, and then connect with them in your own webinar.

3) Start to Reveal Little Known and Little Taught Information.

What you need to start doing is research and find GREAT information that most people do not know exists and then help them discover it through a free download.  That process of helping people and showing them the way is called “Social Media Leadership” –guiding,  directing, and leading folks to new possibilities for their life.

4) Become a Powerful Resource…Suggest other people’s webinars, PDFs, ebooks, CDs, blogs, downloads, and content.

Why in the world do you think I am always pointing  folks to other people’s content on EVERY blog post? ?   Social Media Leadership. And it HELPS folks discover new messages, products, content, soultions, ideas and personalities in MLM they did not know exists that has made a HUGE difference in my life.

5) This is a MUST in all you do: Ask a very powerful but simple question- “Where’s the Beef?”

You may remember Clara Peller in that famous Wendy’s commercial. It became a national slogan for even a presidential election. It should be YOUR slogan in your social media marketing efforts. Yes, you can hold powerful conversations and keep it personal, and Value is within the CONNECTION . But in your marketing broadcasts, “where’s the beef?” Make sure that the Value is:

Constant VALUE.

VALUE that Makes a Difference.

VALUE that is USABLE and Teachable. (Much of what is out there is NOT.)

Or maybe we may think we do.

Get as many followers as you can on as many social sites as you can.

Befriend as many people as you can on facebook, google+, twitter, LinkedIn, youtube, and the like.

Let people know how many view your videos – or supposed to have viewed. ahem.

And get the word out and let people know that you are personally on over 400 social networking sites.

The Social Media Gurus?  Ahem.

Oh- of course- cannot forget this: Get as many people on your group as you can- and then email them daily. Get the numbers up-up-up! And then focus on BIGGER and MORE Powerful numbers- and do not worry about any Value that you need to bring to the table. Everything is all about NUMBERS and if you have the numbers that are supposed to be in your groups-you will do fine. THAT is how you market in social media- and you MUST follow the gurus, experts, and leaders that propose that- THEY know best!!!

Here is a Million Dollar Question:  ok…Where is the Kool Aid?

 Just read an unbelievable article about someone that was saying that twitter is getting as many people as you can to follow you, and THEN you send them advertisements everyday. and DO NOT let up- until they unfollow you. THEN you direct message them.

Yes…I actually read that on a blog. A very stupid blog.


Can you say Certified crd carrying could care less about you —SPAMMER?


Who in the world sold you on that idiotic concept?

NOTE:  Marketing is and always has been  a delicate balance in the socialsphere– no doubt. But that balance many times can be pushed and pulled way out of balance.

Many people that are online and on social media focus on Volume and Numbers and not Value and Names.  DID YOU GET THAT?

Social Media MLM Marketing is about VALUE FIRST– as long term Volume in any corporate of home business will be a result of that. Yes, you need to get some people to follow you on twitter- but here is a nice thought: how about bringing REAL Value to them- instead of trying to pump out a Volume of sales to them first?

This Social Media MLM Marketing Model we call “Connection Marketing”- not “Conjob marketing” as so many people seem to attempt on the social networking scene. Get over it- as people see through that. You MUST grasp the reality that mlm marketing in the social media arena is VALUE Driven- and VALUE focused.

THEN you can start the Volume Conversation that MUST happen if you are going to market in the social media arena.

Get the FACTS.

YOU MUST GET THE FACT that Social Media MLM Marketing is based first on foremost on what level of Value you bring to the conversation. What NEW and Powerful ideas and potent possibilities are you sharing? HOW can you help them move past and above where they are?

What is it that you can do to make sure their experience with you in social media is UNFORGETTABLE? Once people then start to build enduring trust in you and your message- then the Volume Conversation can be brought in- at the right time.
