MLM Prospecting TRUTH.

The task of talking to people is a big one, as that is how network marketing works. You expose your message and products to people, and then find out if they are going to become a customer or a distributor for them.

But there seems to be a huge mistake made in the home business market today.

Many people chase people away. You heard me correctly. Many people have so little going on in their business that their need for a customer or distributor is so strong that it chases prospects away.

And then- the distributor starts chasing them because they have no choice. They are looking for customers and distributors and that prospect is the only thing they got in the pipeline.

That is NO way to work this business. It is much like dating. If a young man asks a girl out, and she says, “No,” than he can call her again if he chooses. But if after 20 No’s the young man may not be getting the message that the girl is simply not interested.

But what if the young man went to a social, and met 5 young ladies who all let him know they would love to go out to dinner- that makes chasing the first young lady seem a total waste of time and effort.

As well as makes the young man seem blind to the truth of who is out in the world wanting to date him.

Are you blind to who is out there that would love to talk to you about your business?

Or do you have your “prospecting radar” on?

And if not- why not?

People today must see the enormous quantity of quality prospects that are out there- in the social media zone.

Frustration is a major part of being an entrepreneur, as well as a Network Marketer. And that many times leads to discouragement and leaving this business. It does not have to be frustrating or discouraging if you simply shift your paradigm about who is available to talk to in the marketplace.

It is normal to want to tell you your friends and family about your business.

That is what we do.

But most folks that you are close to, will not be that interested, because you probably have not succeeded before like you are presenting to them. This conversation lacks credibility to your friend.

They simply turn you off in the listening room in their mind. 

Ok. Great.

It’s about time we came to the realization that this game of begging for prospects is NOT working.

Let’s quit playing that game.

Let’s start doing something that makes a whole lot more sense, and start talking to people that are looking for us ad want to talk to us. You need to start getting our message out to those who are looking for you. And quit wasting your time on those folks that will never really be interested.

Who are most people looking for?

Anyone that will give them some time. That is the challenge.

That presence you carry with you when you do that- pushes people away as they realize something:

 “They know you want to talk to them a whole lot more than they want to talk to you. ( READ THAT AGAIN-editors note.)

What if it were different?

What if you talked to people that at least as much they wanted to talk to you as you to them?

How would that feel?

THAT is what millionaires in this business do.

They do not waste their time on people that are not worth the conversation as far as business. They are PICKY with whom they talk to, and they expect people to come to them – as that is how Leaders do thus business. They look for those who are searching for them.

How about you?

Are you willing to learn new methods of mobile recruiting, SMS, QR CODES, social networking, mobile marketing and social recruiting strategies that will allow you to discover a whole new world out there that you maybe did not know existed?

Most people have a warm market.

There are 2 kinds of Warm market today.

1)   The traditional warm market that has a finite number of leads within it and rarely grows.

2)   The non-traditional warm market that has an endless number of leads that multiplies and grows daily with every new connection you make on line and mobile.

Which one seems more likely to produce more leads?

How would you like to wake up to a new warm market every day in your email box or text message area on your mobile device, that you connect to, and build rapport with, and then access the people that they know and they allow you to do that no problem?

How would you like to have open access to people that actually WANT TO TALK TO YOU and want to build a friendship with you?

How would you like to be able to have so many leads that you literally have to give part
of them away to people who have time to work them and build a relationship with
them?

What would it feel like to have so many people in your “Warm Market Incubator” that you literally had an overflow of leads daily that bury you in people to call??

There are 4 types of folks that you will find in your social media recruiting efforts. The first one is the LOOKER.

Let’s take a look at the LOOKER Type of Candidates in Social Recruiting:

1. The LOOKER. 

This prospect in corporate recruiting is the person who is ACTIVELY LOOKING for a job or employment. In home business  mlm recruiting, this is a prospect that is LOOKING FOR CHANGE and LOOKING FOR MORE out of life.

They have their “radar” on looking for a FIT and a MATCH to where they see their lives are going.

They can be found on LinkedIn, Fast Pitch Networking, job boards, in discussion groups, asking for referrals, sending out direct messages, as well as just in social groups networking. They spend time not only on LinkedIn, but also facebook, follow
twitter feeds for possible job options, and check online career boards for possible options. They go to hotjobs.com, monster.com, careerbuilder.com, among many other career sites.

THAT is one of the biggest traits when it comes to LOOKERS. They are aggressively NETWORKING with other people, EXPOSING their names and profiles to get noticed. They are not afraid of placing their resume online and in public if needed.

In home business recruiting, Lookers make it known via comments and conversations that they are searching for a change in their life or want MORE out of life. It could be because of college tuition coming up, wanting a new home or car, or almost
anything that helps move their life forward to where they want it to go.

Lookers know what they are looking for, where they must go to possibly find it. They are very social and social media savvy in nature. They spend more time on social sites then the average person, can smell insincerity through their computers, and
known what they can bring to the table skill set wise as well as education.

Traits of a LOOKER.

The traits of a Looker are:

  •          Aggressive.
  •          Sharp.
  •           AWARE.
  •          Know what they want and how to get it.
             Relationship based.
            Teachable and Willing to Learn.
            Timing is NOW not tomorrow.
            Leadership skill set can be strong.
            Ambitious and growing.
            Dissatisfied and Discontented, but  not Discouraged.
            Sense of Urgency.
            Loyal and demands loyalty.
  1. These folks are easy to recruit for a home business. Even if they are looking a corporate position, they still can be easy to recruit.

The Social Recruiter  says, “Surprisingly, many of the Lookers actually are open to a more non traditional career path- even some part time. When I discovered this, I thought that was amazing. I only offer full time employment. But if I was in a home business, I would spend a lot of time looking for those kinds of candidates. They make themselves known and make it a point to get to know others. They are natural networkers and go getters.

 Some are motivated by unjustly being fired, some because they want a career change, some because they
want better money or position, and others because they want a more suitable corporate culture to work in. They are front and center and let you know it. But again, you only get ONE SHOT at this type of candidate.

 You MUST use the words and phrases that will get their attention the RIGHT WAY. Many people in social media I have observed, truly say a lot of the wrong things that push the candidate away. They could have had a powerhouse of a Leader with amazing connections at their call, but did not know the right approach or social focus to PULL them in. It is critical that you know this. Otherwise, you will never get the time of day
from them.”

 Lookers are looking for a MATCH.

 It is the same in home business and mlm. Lookers are looking for a MATCH.

They are lookingfor a match to where they want their life to go, and a possible business vehicleto get them there. That is the reason that if you are talking to a Looker, then you need to talk “match.”

“I am looking for a match for my company and someone who is looking for a match for their future.
Someone who would be a great fit for us and our company would be a fit for them.”

 You get the point.

This is how you hold conversation on the social sites. Talk “Match” and “Fit” with Lookers. That is the language that will pull them towards you. It rings in their heart as a conversation they would like to explore.

Lookers are VISIBLE and VALUABLE.

Lookers are the “Hunters” in Social Recruiting and they actively go out and “hunt” for the right job or the right business for their life. They are ACTIVE Networkers and are powerful Connectors. They are active in social media as well as offline.

They spend a LOT of time connecting with who they perceive the “right people”- someone who can help them locate the position or career they are looking for. They are often powerful Leaders with a vision for where they are headed. And many are looking
also to “expand” their horizons with something different-like a part time business they own in mlm or network marketing.

Many Lookers today are looking – with one eye for employment online- and with the other eye looking for possible alternatives. YOU offer the alternative with a home business.

That is why your UBM must elicit trust and make people feel glad they heard about you, found out about you, or talked with you.

If you take a look at the word BRAND – it simply stands for: – (and THIS should be
your focus and goal for your brand)

Bringing (to) Remembrance A Niche (that) Delights

Every time people think of you, you want them to think of YOU and your NICHE that you have carved out that makes them smile and direct them to a thought, image, or movement.

They are delighted that you exist because of your brand. They are delighted to refer people to you. They are delighted to tell people about you. They are delighted to do business with you. And they are delighted to stick with you, because they love the brand that you have marked out in the marketplace.

If you are having trouble recruiting or prospecting, then it may be the brand that people
are seeing. It may be sending out all the wrong messages.

Here is an interesting discussion: “If you are sending out the wrong message
about yourself unknowingly, you are going to get the consequences of that,
unwittingly. Your brand is who you want people to remember- and in some
instances, forget. Be careful of the silent message you are sending out. It can
destroy your business if you are not careful.

 Many people unknowingly send silent signals out to people and that forms a not so good image in the minds of folks. That is not what you want. Your brand is your calling card and reputation. Keep it clean, powerful, and memorable. Make sure they get an emotional jolt when they think of you that makes them feel good- not a jolt that does the opposite.”

 Work on how you are perceived, and what you are known for– Especially if you
are getting on the social media path. It will make all the difference in the world with your recruiting and prospecting.

You’ve seen tons of articles raving about it.

How it’s driving more traffic than anything in the known universe. How you need to be “pinning” and have “pinnable stuff” or you’re going to fail at this magical new social network. How it’s the greatest thing since, well, the last greatest thing.

And you want someone to be straight with you. So here’s the truth …

Pinterest traffic is worthless.

But so is all traffic — unless you do something with it.

Seeing patterns that aren’t there

The problem with most of what’s being written about Pinterest traffic is that it’s pointing out the wrong things. What passes for “reporting” is someone opening Google Analytics, seeing a spike in referrals from Pinterest, and writing an “OMG! Lots of Traffic” post.

Very few are taking the time to do any due diligence on the larger picture.

Are people clicking through, or is the “traffic” just a remote call to the pinned image? Where are your visitors going? What are they doing?

You have to ask real questions, and look for real answers, not patterns based on what others think they’re seeing.

And the wonderful thing about running a business online is that almost everything is testable, trackable, and adjustable.

What’s really going on with Pinterest traffic?

Data doesn’t lie (at least when you’re using it correctly).

Understanding your data — traffic, patterns, and conversions — is critical to your content marketing strategy.  Especially when it comes to a new traffic source.

At Copyblogger Media, much of what we do is guided by data — traffic patterns, market analysis, feedback, customer input, and conversion scenarios.

And the increased Pinterest traffic we receive is treated no differently.

We watch, track, analyze, and correlate to figure out how best to capitalize on this new traffic source. Here are a few things we’ve discovered …

Traffic:

  • In the last three months (Jan 1-Mar 28), Pinterest helped traffic grow on each of our sites.
  • For Copyblogger, Pinterest was the #3 referring website, bested only by Facebook and Twitter.
  • Between January 1st and March 5th, when the 15 Grammar Goofs That Make You Look Silly infographic was posted, Pinterest sent close to 15,000 visits. Based on the number of times it was pinned, this told us that fewer than half of the people who pinned the image actually clicked through.
  • In the week following that infographic, Pinterest sent 2.7 times as much traffic as the three months before.
  • Individual post activity seems to hold a long shelf life when it’s popular on Pinterest. Often, a tweet is lifeless within a day, where a pin can continue pulling traffic for weeks after being published.
  • During this same three-month period, Pinterest was the #29 referring site for StudioPress.
  • While the amount of raw Pinterest traffic — the number of visits — is smaller for StudioPress than for Copyblogger, visitors to StudioPress stay much longer and visit more pages on average. For example, the average visit duration for a Pinterest-referred visitor on Copyblogger is 0:00:32, compared to an average of 0:05:28 on StudioPress.
  • Pinterest visitors check out 1.16 pages on average after clicking through to Copyblogger, compared to 6.34 pages on StudioPress.
  • The bounce rate for Pinterest visitors on Copyblogger averages out to 91.7%, StudioPress is 49.9% on average. This is much higher than our site averages, and higher than most other traffic sources.

Visitor Flow:

  • Infographic pins have exceptionally high bounce rates and very short visits, usually less than a minute. However, other pins (such as the 56 Ways to Market Your Business on Pinterest post) that led to straight copy had much longer visits and lower bounce rates.
  • On that Pinterest marketing post, the majority went on to the main page, followed by the Internet Marketing for Smart People, Genesis, and SEO site quality pages.

  • On days when Pinterest activity was particularly high, traffic increased to each of our product sites from Copyblogger.
  • 89.6% of Pinterest-referred visitors to Copyblogger were new to the site. Only 44.4% of Pinterest referrals on StudioPress brought new visitors.
  • The StudioPress top Pinterest-pulling post included an infographic about How Developers are Driving the Business Adoption of WordPress.
  • The vast majority of other StudioPress popular pins were all themes or showcase websites. These pins, on average, showed very low bounce and exit rates, with most continuing on to the themes page, the showcase, the blog, or the features page.
  • On average, they also showed fewer new visitors, which historically correlates with low bounce rates on our properties.

OK, so what does all of this mean for you?

In short, it means:

  1. You need to have specific goals for using the traffic from Pinterest.
  2. Work with the traffic as you would from any source — driving it to landing pages and through a conversion path.

For example, we’ve optimized certain pages on Copyblogger to drive visitors to our list and product pages. We’ve found that the traffic from Pinterest can be also driven to those sources, if a clear call to action is present.

On StudioPress, optimizing showcase pages to drive traffic to the related themes has shown an increase of on-page time and conversions — especially for repeat visitors.

So, even though the traffic from Pinterest for StudioPress was much lower than for Copyblogger, the overall bounce rate was also lower, on-page time was higher, and conversions were better because the path was more predictable.

Armed with that data, we can better utilize the traffic on all of our sites through tracking and testing.

And so can you.

Our analysis shows us a number of best practices for converting Pinterest traffic:

  • Infographics and smaller images command more click-throughs because they’re unreadable from the Pinterest site.
  • Infographic headlines are key to getting people to click through.
  • Compelling subjects covered with too-small-for-Pinterest font choices are ideal.
  • People who do move around your site upon arrival will likely follow a predictable path (for example: a showcase theme pin leads to a page path that is more likely to start with the themes gallery than the blog).
  • You can control how traffic responds by making a specific call to action on your pin’s landing page.
  • Longer visits on pins that bring repeat traffic is an important metric, since on commerce-driven sites you may need to get someone to your page a few times before they buy.
  • Pinterest doesn’t sell stuff — you do. By funneling the traffic properly, you can convert visitors into customers.

Traffic from any source is only worthwhile if you have specific goals for it. You can use Pinterest for customer engagement, personal branding,  or as an entry point to your conversion funnel.

 Today- what worked 8 years ago- does NOT have the impact that it once did. The days of just the warm market and people you know, and nothing else- is pretty much considered passe. Most wealth today in network marketing is created by a multiple of channels of leads coming in from various places online and offline.

 Yes, you can build a business on your warm market exclusively, but it will be harder than it was even 10 years ago to build a business, let alone create wealth on warm market alone.

Don’t get me wrong- warm market is the Nuclear Core of a new home business prospect list!

But concerning  social media being a MUST,  some people may disagree, but we have seen the changes coming for quite sometime and new prospecting tactics need to be at least in the wings.

 There are new market and recruiting dynamics that were not in play 10 years ago in the marketplace, including social media marketing, mobile recruiting, social recruiting, and SMS marketing.

 And more and more people are now tired of being “hit up” by their friends about Network marketing. Many have a wall that seems to have been built because of that, and a lesser percentage of warm market seem to be responding in a positive way.

 How do you have a presence in a multitude of places to day?

 Let’s listen to part of a training I did in 2011:

 “Having a presence today in multiple places is not a need to do- but a MUST do, as things have changed the last 10 years in this industry. You must have that kind of presence and be visible just to be competitive in the ever expanding home business marketplace. People used to use large cell phones almost the size of a small suitcase, but they evolved and today they are smaller than a palm of a hand or even 2 fingers. 

 It’s the same with computers as they used to be the size of a small desk. Today, they are the size of the palm of your hand with mobile devices, smart phones, and other new technology. And that is the same with network marketing, as it has evolved and changed, and grown. And you CANNOT afford to stagnate your reach into the marketplace.

What I am about to say is worth millions of dollars:

 “If you are not EXTENDING YOUR REACH into the marketplace daily, you are falling behind. You MUST extend your reach in a multitude of ways and be in a multitude of places.

 “We all know Network Marketing, or MLM better known as Multi level Marketing.

I call what I am talking about ‘Multitude Marketing’.

It’s being in a multitude of places all at the same time.

 The first place you can look to expand is the traditional media. Run neighborhood classified ads and get some visibility locally. You need to do that. Get some post cards out in the snail mail and let that work for you. They will lay around and remind the prospect of you. Give some CDs and DVDs out and let them do the talking for you.

Be in 10 places at once doing a presentation with a prospect through duplicated media. Do a weekly webinar, google hang out, or an old fashioned conference call. This will extend your reach dramatically, as a webinar also will. People from all over the country will be in attendance.

And get into social media and mobile media as well as mobile marketing and recruiting. Be on the social sites on your mobile, set some landing pages and facebook fan pages up, and create a presence that people will see and start to know. Make new friends through the sites and get to know them.

Social Bookmark a lot of sites and articles that you like, and get them out on the social book marking sites. And also get into blogging, tweeting, posting, do videos, PDFs, and put things on pinterest. You can be in a multitude of places all at once if you put the effort in and understand:

Today it is NOW about people moving TOWARDS YOU – not just you – moving towards them.

 People today in Network Marketing, that only move towards people they know and then wait on those friends to move- will not only fall behind in the process, but will get buried in the wave of the new social media and mobile recruiting phenomena.”

That about says it all. And the smart thing to do is create a real understanding of what was just said and see how you integrate it into your business of network marketing and direct selling.

The New marketplace is a whole lot more savvy than it used to be. Computers changed that. The internet changed that. SMS, Mobile Marketing, Social Networking, Smart phones changed that.

And that change moved the focus from product being primary- to people. YOU are the first brand in your business-your company and products are the secondary brand. You must set yourself apart from all the others out there, and become the ‘Expert’ at something that will elevate people’s perspective of who you are and what you do.

You can talk all you want about your products and business. But it is not anywhere near as powerful as others that are talking for you and about you. What is one of the worst things that you can have in social media and a home business?

Are you aware that it can destroy your brand and even your business over time in network marketing?

Ok- fair enough…but what is that?

There are some folks that you see everywhere on social media,  but people do not ever seem to get tired of them. You read their posts daily, watch their videos constantly, and talk about their current message powerfully.

There are certain social media folks thay bring Extreme Value to everything they say and do and contribute to the social media word. They do it without a selfish motive and YOU CAN FEEL IT, as well as sense it.

There are a LOT of social networking folks that bring great VALUE to EVERYTHING they do, and people on facebook, twitter, pinterest, Google+, LinkedIn, and other social sites look forward to hearing from them- again and again and again.

And they keep coming back for more!

What makes these folks special, is they do not “pitch” you on their products or trainings every time they hold a conversation online, text, broadcast a message or say something in a video. They constantly bring a more powerful conversation into the community with powerful ideas and concepts that ADDS– not tries to take from the whole.

Their message in social media BRINGS VALUE– not tries to be SEEN as VALUE. People are savvy enough to tell the difference today in social media.

And folks, that ONE THING  is the difference between powerful and enduring Successful Social Media professionals- and the ones that are not so successful.

It appears that Successful professionals in social media seem to focus more on being Valuable and BRINGING Value to people’s lives daily, – while it comes across that less than successful folks seem to focus more on being Visible.

Find out what challenges that your prospects have. Ask them.   Give them multiple solutions and ideas and resources that will help solve that problem, and then connect with them in your own webinar.

3) Start to Reveal Little Known and Little Taught Information.

What you need to start doing is research and find GREAT information that most people do not know exists and then help them discover it through a free download.  That process of helping people and showing them the way is called “Social Media Leadership” –guiding,  directing, and leading folks to new possibilities for their life.

4) Become a Powerful Resource…Suggest other people’s webinars, PDFs, ebooks, CDs, blogs, downloads, and content.

Why in the world do you think I am always pointing  folks to other people’s content on EVERY blog post? ?   Social Media Leadership. And it HELPS folks discover new messages, products, content, soultions, ideas and personalities in MLM they did not know exists that has made a HUGE difference in my life.

5) This is a MUST in all you do: Ask a very powerful but simple question- “Where’s the Beef?”

You may remember Clara Peller in that famous Wendy’s commercial. It became a national slogan for even a presidential election. It should be YOUR slogan in your social media marketing efforts. Yes, you can hold powerful conversations and keep it personal, and Value is within the CONNECTION . But in your marketing broadcasts, “where’s the beef?” Make sure that the Value is:

Constant VALUE.

VALUE that Makes a Difference.
