I have written literally over 2000 articles the last 11 years. That is a LOT of writing. But sometimes there are those “classic” articles and posts that really still shine and help a lot of folks.

I have been doing a series on MLM Recruiting and what it takes to succeed in this, and ran across some notes that i had written down, and thought that they might be of interest. When you are in the recruiting mode, it is amazing to see how you can adapt and become a magnet in the process with the right words.

I have seen many distributors over the years start using the right verbiage and have watched their business explode. And you can too, if you allow it to.

The Art of MLM Recruiting.

The art of mlm recruiting is a great art, as well as a great process. And the words you use are the tools that people perceive you as, as well as your business. Many people make so many mistakes in recruiting, and unfortunately it destroys their results. But you do not have to put up with that as the tips below will help you become a recruiting powerhouse.

Here are  14 MORE MLM Recruiting Tips that I found in my notes that I have for writing  posts and articles and nuggets.

1) “Make sure that there are NO distractions when you are talking to the prospect about your Network Marketing Home Business.”

Remember this: If the prospect is distracted, they are not focused on your message. “Would you like to wait a couple of minutes before I go on?” If the distractions continue, make
another appointment.

2) “Use several testimonials during your MLM Recruiting talk. They bring life to your message.”

If you do not yet have a testimonial, borrow your sponsor’s. Find out three really HOT testimonials as far as the business, and share them with your prospect to emotionally connect to your message.

3) “Use the phrase ‘If this is right for you’ during your talk. It will draw them towards you psychologically.”

“And this company has such a great track record to set a new person as well as you at ease when they come into the business…of course, only if this is right for you.”

4) “Trash the word OPPORTUNITY. It is a Red Flag word today.”

Use the word Vehicle, or Business. Our society looks at the word “opportunity'” today as “Uh oh…not another one of those”.

5) “The first thing you MUST do is get the prospect COMFORTABLE. Talk about THEM.”

If the prospect is not comfortable with you, they will NOT be comfortable with your message. Talk ONLY about them the first 5 minutes.

6) “Find out what is the MOST valuable thing in a person’s life, then wrap the presentation around it.”

Family usually is. “How this will impact your family is…..How this will increase the time you have with your family is… This business will help you bring that dream into reality in your

7) “Always be FORWARD FOCUSED in your MLM Recruiting. That is where most people are interested in…moving forward in a more powerful life.”

People want to KNOW there is a real chance in life, to live the life they dream of. Don’t dwell on how things are in a person’s life. Focus on how things SHOULD be, and WILL be. Be the Knight in Shining Armor.

8) ” ALWAYS set the Next Move while you are talking to them. LEAD them, give them the next step in the process, be the pied piper.”

“At this point, what a lot of folks like to do is….get on a three way…attend a conference call….look at some tools…I have an idea…let’s do THIS….” Then explain the Next Move.

9) “It’s NOT what you say, but what people are FEELING when you say it.”

Words are important in MLM Recruiting, but emotions are more important. How can anyone get excited over something you are not? How can anyone believe in something that you don’t? How can anybody follow you, if you are not strong enough in faith to follow? How can anyone be touched by your message, if you are not?

10) “MLM Recruiting is a Follow Me game.”

You are asking someone to follow your lead about an unknown product, an unknown company, and into an unknown future. That requires some SERIOUS Leadership. Be serious about YOUR Leadership in Recruiting.

11) “People don’t follow what you say, or what you do, but WHO YOU ARE.”

MLM Recruiting is about WHO YOU ARE, and who the prospect wants to be. Be REAL, and be Yourself. Don’t morph into your upline. Your warm market will be turned off by that. Yes, you should be BECOMING who you are planning on being…but still be REAL.

12) “Remember the Golden Rule of the Presentation. It is NOT about the Presentation, but about Transformation- how your business will transform the prospect’s life!”

MLM Recruiting is about being a Walking, Talking Transformer. You are a CHANGE Agent, just like people who sell houses are Real Estate agents.

13) “ALWAYS thank the prospect for their time. no matter what. This is just professionalism.”

Gratitude can play a long way into creating Success in your life. “I want to truly thank you for your time…. I have enjoyed talking to you so much.”

BONUS TIP: The Last word they should hear as you finish the conversation, is THEIR NAME.

“I have enjoyed this, and I will talk to you next Thursday. Bye Shirley.” “This has been wonderful. I look forward to talking again with you Mary.” “You truly are a great
person to chat with. I have enjoyed this. I look forward to chatting again Tim.”

1) “Let the prospect ask the questions, but only at the right time.”

So many prospects have so many questions, and they all will pull you off track of your home business presentation. When a prospect has a question, simply say, “Thank you for asking that….I would love to answer it, and will answer all your questions in a just a second…and
it goes to show you are thinking!”

2)”Be focused. Be THERE, and not somewhere else in your mind.”

People can actually tell when you are going through the motions, and not really into what you are saying. Three rules in MLM Recruiting: BeThere. Be Present. Be With the Person. Not with your thoughts of something else.

3)) “Ask a question every minute or so. Keep drawing them into your MLM recruiting conversation.”

Questions are the magnet. Keep asking them. “Are you with me?” “Am I making sense?” “Do you see what I am talking about?” “What would happen to your life if that happens?” “How would this impact your family?

4) “Use their name at least 3 times the first 3 minutes.”

Don’t over do it, but the sweetest sound you can say to a prospect is their name. Say it 3 times in 3 minutes a a rule, and you will keep their attention 3 times as log as you normally would. Use it throughout the conversation. “Does that make sense Mary?

5) “When on the telephone, use words that paint a picture, and are emotional.”

Use words that paint a vivid picture. Use action oriented words. Use words and phrases that are emotional. “Family. Freedom. Breakthrough. Wealth. Vacation Property. Joy. Deserve. Worth it. In Control. Total Success. Enlarged Lifestyle.”

6) “Never understimate the Power of the Three Golden Words in MLM Recruiting.”

There are three words that are GOLDEN in Recruiting, and life. They carry a Connection Magnet with them. “I Totally Understand”. Those words are powerful when talking about any life situation that comes up, and use them often, as they will create a MAGNETISM in
your personality.

7) “Use the word TRUTH when Recruiting, as that will anchor in their heart, and understanding.”

“When I was first looking at Network   I was looking for only the truth of the matter, as it was important to me…and I would think it would be for you?” The word “truth” is a powerful word, as you bring the reality of the matter right out in the open and lay it out, dispelling any doubts in their mind from the very beginning.

8) “Never play “Verbal Judo” in MLM Recruiting. If someone disagrees with you, thank them for it. It is their right to disagree.”

“Thank you for bringing that up. I appreciate your insight. Help me understand why you said that…. tell me more.” This will do more to draw the real objection out then arguing with
them. Verbal Judo alway has one winner. And it is never you.

9) “Never CHASE a prospect. You are not a dog. You MUST develop the leadership mindset in network marketing recruiting. People do not follow companies, products, or compensation

People follow PEOPLE with STRENGTH. If you are chasing the prospect, you are displaying weakness. MLM Leaders give the prospect enough time to start moving towards them– usually 10-14 days- and after that, they keep in touch regularly, but move on.

10) “When using the telephone, make sure that you are more animated than normal. It will display energy, and magnetism.”

The telephone is a great communication tool, but it will never replace face to face interaction. Let people FEEL your words, and make sure that you come across as confident and someone that is going places, and taking people with you.

11) “The prospect is thinking one thing: How will this ENLARGE my Lifestyle?”

Most people in life, are looking to Enlarge their income. ALL people are looking to Enlarge their lifestyle. Find out what kind they want. “Tell me about the kind of lifestyle you have often dreamed of…”

Have you ever paid attention to BODY LANGUAGE when talking with someone about your home business?

It is ALL about:

Sending Signals Without Words

Body language is extremly important in an interviewing situation. Some would argue that it is just as important as what you say and what is on your resume. Why? Because we can learn quite a bit about people by their non-verbal actions. This is one of the ways that an interviewer is trying to size you up as a candidate.

When we are in stressful or uncomfortable situations, many of us have habits that can be distracting to other people. Certainly biting ones nails or constantly fidgeting with ones hands could be distracting from what you are trying to say.

These are examples of body language that can be harmful in an interviewing situation. Used correctly, however, body language can reinforce what you are saying and give greater impact to your statements. The following are tips to help you give the right non-verbal clues.

1.The Greeting
2.Facial / Head Signals
3.The Eyes

The Greeting

Giving a “dead fish” handshake will not advance one’s candidacy: neither will opposite extreme, the iron-man bone crusher grip.

The ideal handshake starts before the meeting actually occurs. Creating the right impression with the handshake is a three-step process.

Be sure that:

1.Your hands are clean and adequately manicured.

2.Your hands are warm and reasonably free of perspiration. (There are a number of ways to ensure this, including washing hands in warm water at the interview site, holding one’s hand close to the cheek for a few seconds, and even applying a little talcum powder.)

3.The handshake itself is executed professionally and politely, with a firm grip and a warm smile.

Remember that if you initiate the handshake, you may send the message that you have a desire to dominate the interview; this is not a good impression to leave with one’s potential boss. Better to wait a moment and allow the interviewer to initiate the shake. (If for any reason you find yourself initiating the handshake, do not pull back; if you do, you will appear indecisive. Instead, make the best of it, smile confidently, and make good eye contact.)
Use only one hand; always shake vertically. Do not extend your hand parallel to the floor, with the palm up, as this conveys submissiveness. By the same token, you may be seen as being too aggressive if you extend your flat hand outward with the palm facing down.

Facial / Head Signals

Once you take your seat, you can expect the interviewer to do most of the talking. You can also probably expect your nervousness to be at its height. Accordingly, you must be particularly careful about the nonverbal messages you send at this stage.

Now, while all parts of the body are capable of sending positive and negative signals, the head (including the eyes and mouth) is under the closest scrutiny. Most good interviewers will make an effort to establish and maintain eye contact, and thus you should expect that whatever messages you are sending from the facial region will be picked up, at least on a subliminal level.

Our language is full of expressions testifying to the powerful influence of facial signals. When we say that someone is shifty-eyed, is tight-lipped, has a furrowed brow, flashes bedroom eyes, stares into space, or grins like a Cheshire cat, we are speaking in a kind of shorthand, and using a set of stereotypes that enables us to make judgments — consciously or unconsciously — about a person’s abilities and qualities. Those judgments may not be accurate, but they are usually difficult to reverse.

Tight smiles and tension in the facial muscles often bespeak an inability to handle stress; little eye contact can communicate a desire to hide something; pursed lips are often associated with a secretive nature; and frowning, looking sideways, or peering over one’s glasses can send signals of haughtiness and arrogance. Hardly the stuff of which winning interviews are made!

The Eyes

Looking at someone means showing interest in that person, and showing interest is a giant step forward in making the right impression. (Remember, each of us is our own favorite subject!)

Your aim should be to stay with a calm, steady, and non-threatening gaze. It is easy to mismanage this, and so you may have to practice a bit to overcome the common hurdles in this area. Looking away from the interviewer for long periods while he is talking, closing your eyes while being addressed, repeatedly shifting focus from the subject to some other point:

These are likely to leave the wrong impression.

Course, there is a big difference between looking and staring at someone!

Rather than looking the speaker straight-on at all times, create a mental triangle incorporating both eyes and the mouth; your eyes will follow a natural, continuous path along the three points. Maintain this approach for roughly three-quarters of the time; you can break your gaze to look at the interviewer’s hands as points are emphasized, or to refer to your note pad. These techniques will allow you to leave the impression that you are attentive, sincere, and committed. Staring will only send the message that you are aggressive or belligerent.


Be wary of breaking eye contact too abruptly, and shifting your focus in ways that will disrupt the atmosphere of professionalism. Examining the interviewer below the shoulders, is a sign of over familiarity. (This is an especially important point to keep in mind when being interviewed by someone of the opposite sex.)

The eyebrows send a message as well.

Under stress, one’s eyebrows may wrinkle; as we have seen, this sends a negative signal about our ability to handle challenges in the business world. The best advice on this score is simply to take a deep breath and collect yourself. Most of the tension that people feel at interviews has to do with anxiety about how to respond to what the interviewer will ask.

Practice responses to traditional interview questions and relax, you will do a great job in your mlm home business recruiting!

What IS a Transition Phrase?

It is where you transition what you are talking about in a conversation into a conversation about your business and possibilities.


Transition Phrases are powerful if USED CORRECTLY.

There is a “point” that there is an “opening” in every conversation that can be transitioned and transformed into a conversation about your business. But knowing what to say and how to say it is critical in order to be able to move into that what I call the “Transition Zone.”

The “Transition Zone” is where you move very softly into the conversation about your business and lead the prospect into it.

It is much like opening a door and walking the prospect through it. The “Transition Phrase” is the door opening, and then moving into the conversation is the walking the prospect through the door.

This is why many people mess up in their recruiting efforts. They try to FORCE the conversation versus transitioning into it.

You use “Transition Phrases” for that process.

Here are some powerful Transition Phrases as well as Softening Phrases to soften the prospect’s emotions:

1. Tran-sition Phrase:

 “I am glad you mentioned that.” This is where you take something the prospect has said, and turn into a “door” to open the conversation into a recruiting conversation.

This could be about losing weight, skin problems, or income problems.

“Tom, I am so glad you mentioned that. Because there is something that I have found that really helps with that. Let me explain.”

2. Transition Phrase:

 “That reminds me- let me share something with you that  I have been meaning to –that I have run across.”

This Transition Phrase can be used anywhere in a conversation. The secret is to play “Columbo” when you are talking to the prospect. Columbo was a detective that often as he was leaving a place, turn around and drop a “bomb” on the person that often lead to a conviction. It is the same here as you simply say the phrase and open the door to a different direction in the conversation.

Here are three “Softening Phrases” that can help in your conversation that will help “soften” the conversation moving in another direction:

“Softner” Phrases  – “I am not sure if this is something that would be right for you.”
“Softner” Phrases – “This may or may not be a fit for you.”
“Softner” Phrases – “I only want what is best for you and your family.”

I would suggest that you practice these phrases, as these will help tremendously in your recruiting and prospecting conversations in your mlm network marketing home business efforts.

As I understand it, and please correct me if I am wrong–you have been checking out home businesses for yourself- correct? Great- I am calling you simply for one reason- to take a second to learn a little bit about you, tell you a little bit about us, and after that we will both know if we need to talk any further-does that sound fair? We both are busy, so this will not take long as you know what you are looking for — and we know who we are looking for…so let’s see if there are some possibilities here.”

Here are the Talking Points that you can use, and they follow the flow of the script when the prospect answers the telephone. Put it in your own words if you desire:

“Someone requested I call.”
“As I understand it.”
“Checking out home businesses.”
“Learn a little bit about you.”
“Learn a little bit about us.”
“See if there is any reason to pursue it any further.”
“You know what you are looking for- who we are looking for.”
“Lets’ see if there is a match.”

Do you know that there is a “silent language” that your mlm prospect end to you when you meet with them?

Are you aware that often their “body language” carries the REAL message of what they are trying to say?

Who would it help to have some home business training on reading your network marketing prospect like a book?

Body language I have studied for years, and it is a fascinating study. If you understand what the “signals” are that they are sending you unknowingly, you will be stunned how it can increase and improve your recruiting success.

Here is an article that I have loved and referred to for years. It is an article that was written specific to body language and I know will help you in your recruiting and success endeavors. It truly is one of those articles that are timeless and I have been blessed to discover.

Body Language Signals and Nonverbal Clues.

A range of nonverbal clues may serve as red flags during a negotiation or recruiting session. Experts suggest paying special attention to a person’s hands and face. “There are many revealing body signals that may indicate a hidden agenda,” said Donald Moine, an organizational psychologist in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.

Examples include hair pulling, lip biting, eye blinking, gulping and throat clearing. According to Moine, a negotiator or prospect who starts breathing rapidly may not be telling the truth. “The way to tell how someone is breathing is to notice their shoulders,” he said. “With more rapid breathing that’s higher up in the chest, you will see their shoulders rise and fall a lot more than normal.”

When coaching executives to improve their negotiation skills, Moine finds that many of them miss opportunities to read others’ body language. “They often make the mistake of looking down at papers instead of being observant,” he said. The next time your opponent gestures for you to study a document or presents a written contract for you to scrutinize, don’t fall for the bait. Instead of cutting off eye contact, Moine suggests that you say, “Tell me about it. What does it say?” As long as you keep your eyes on your negotiating partners or your prospect, you can assess whether their nonverbal behavior conflicts with what they tell you.


Even the most experienced deal makers or prospects who know how to mask their expressions may still betray themselves with their bodies. “Watch for signs of deception,” said Raymond McGraime, author of “Silent Seduction.”

“Deception is shown by such movements as covering of the mouth with the hands, rubbing the side of the nose, jerking the head quickly to the side, and leaning away from you. If these things occur when they’re saying something critical to the negotiation or enrolling in your company, that’s even more significant.” Although these behaviors may simply result from nervous tics, McGraime warns that they can also expose a liar. “When most people lie, they subconsciously want to apologize for it,” he said. “They feel guilty for lying, and that shows in
their nonverbal behavior.”

Body Language Trust.

On a more positive note, body language can sometimes help you trust a speaker. Look for expansive, welcoming gestures that seem to flow naturally from the person’s behavior. “When someone opens his palms towards simultaneously, that’s a sign of openness and honesty,”
McGraime said. “The further the palms come out from their body, the better. In depictions of the great prophets, you see this. It’s like saying, ‘I have nothing up my sleeve.’”

opponent is that you lean too much on just one sign,” said Richard Heslin, professor of psychology at Purdue University. “But when you can put several things together, maybe there’s something there that’s worth paying attention to.”

Body Aspects

Our body says a lot about us in many ways as we communicate. Body movement can indicate attitudes, and feelings while also acting as illustrators and regulators. Our body movement includes the heads, eyes, shoulders, lips, eyebrows, neck, legs, arms, fingers, orientation, hands and gestures. Together these pieces can convey if we’re comfortable, unhappy, friendly, anxious, nervous and many other messages.

With so many parts conveying messages, you can see how easily things can get confused and how difficult it is to manipulate nonverbal communication. Just think of the different messages which are communicated through facing a person, touching, standing at various
distances and in different stances. With careful thought, however, we may begin
using our bodies to further our clarity and meaning.

I would rather talk to the people they know and start the formation of a powerful team– then let lack of money stop that person from building a business that could possibly make them a fortune. Wouldn’t you agree?”


3. PYRAMID Objection: 

 “And some people get non traditional marketing confused with pyramids, and I understand. We operate much like a real estate company does, as the broker goes out and puts a real estate agency team together, we go out and put a product broker team together, and then we can get paid commissions from what is sold by the team. It is non traditional for marketing products, I know, but the model works for real estate, and it works for us as well. Do you know a real estate agent? Then you are familiar with how it works.”

2. “I was looking for the same thing.”

This shows that you have been where they are and understand their perspective and position.

3. “I understand.”

There is no more powerful way to connect than to understand someone and what they are saying. These 2 words are POWER and STRENGTH.

4. “I totally agree.”

Agreeing with someone is a powerful psychological connector. A prospect will feel flattered if you agree agree with them right off the bat.

5. “I have a friend that does that for a living.”

This is a Powerful connector for knowing someone in the same field of work. It truly is a great connection phrase and MAGNET.

6. “You and I seem to be a lot alike.” 

This one always seems to work without fail as you are saying, “You are like me!”

7. “You and I share a lot in common.” 

This is another great way to say, “I am like you.” This is a MAGNET that PULLS mlm prospects towards you.
